Laboratory measurements of leaf and soil optical properties
Tutor: Petr Lukeš and Miroslav Pikl (CzechGlobe)
Tutorial description: In this tutorial participants will learn how to measure leaf and soil optical properties in laboratory conditions. Participants will get familiar with instruments needed for leaf and soil spectral measurements (e.g., spectroradiometers, integrating spheres, light sources, sample tables) and measurement protocols. Participants will be divided into small groups where they will measure soil and leaf spectra in different configurations (integrating sphere, leaf-clip and contact probe). Laboratory measurements will be followed by basic post-processing to compute sample reflectance and transmittance signatures.
Requirements: Participants need to bring their own laptops for spectra processing. No specific software is needed besides spreadsheet editor (Excel, LibreOffice or similar). Sample data and instrumentation will be provided. No previous knowledge on leaf optical properties measurement is required.
Number of participants: max. 10
